Dr Peter Munt is the principal orthodontist and founder of Scope Orthodontics. Although born in Queensland, Peter has well and truly made Western Australia his home. After completing high school in Perth, Peter completed a First Class Honours degree in Science at the University of Western Australia. Following two years working in Port Hedland, Peter was accepted into dentistry at the University of Western Australia. Here he was also awarded First Class Honours, along with many prizes for academic and practical excellence each year. Peter then commenced practice in the government dental clinic in Bunbury, before becoming an associate and then practice owner for almost a decade in a private practice in West Perth. Having an ongoing thirst for development career progression, Peter began the prestigious orthodontics programme at the University of Western Australia. Spending three years in full time study, finishing with a Master of Dental Science in Orthodontics, he was also awarded the TP (Australia) Postgraduate Award for the Best Clinically Treated case of any orthodontics student in Australasia. Upon graduation, Peter and his family moved to Ireland for 18 months, he worked in the Health Service Executive as a specialist orthodontist. Returning home, Peter set down roots with Dr Jeffrey Hay in private specialist orthodontic practice. Jeff was not only an established, well-respected member of the Orthodontic community, but also a cherished mentor and friend. Upon Jeff’s retirement, Peter founded Scope Orthodontics, where he continues today, providing excellent care and state of the art orthodontic treatment throughout the northern suburbs of Perth.

Peter is a life member of Equal Health, an Australian charity organization that provides medical, dental and optical aid to third world countries. Peter and his wife Ellie, have made several aid trips to India, providing dental treatment to orphans and the underprivileged. In recognition of this, Peter was been elected as a fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International, an Honours society aimed at improving dental health world-wide. To assist in the ongoing development of his profession, Peter offers his services as a part-time clinical tutor at the Oral Health Centre of WA, where he instructs the postgraduate orthodontic students at the University of Western Australia. He is also active participant in the ‘Give A Smile’ programme. An initiative set up by the Australian Society of Orthodontics aimed at directing orthodontic care to patients who would otherwise not have access to treatment.
